Intellihub has announced the signing of a long-term smart metering deployment and services agreement to roll-out up to 150,000 smart meters to Trustpower’s customers across New Zealand over the next three years.
The agreement is the first major deal Intellihub has made in New Zealand and means it now has contracts to deliver more than one million smart meters across Australia and New Zealand.
Chief Executive of the Intellihub Group Adrian Clark said the agreement came after a 12-month proof-of-concept with the Tauranga-based business.
“We are delighted to join Trustpower to help deliver its roll out smart meters to its customers,” Mr Clark said.
“We are focused on providing and innovative and customer focused offering.
“Smart metering technology offers communities so much more than electricity metering, and Intellihub is committed to working with Trustpower and other stakeholders on a smart cities blueprint for the Tauranga district.
“The unique relationship and strong local ties that Trustpower has with the people of Tauranga, make this an ideal location to pioneer a smart cities model that can be more broadly adopted. Future innovations could include smart grid services, street lighting and water meters.
“Powerco, the operator of the Tauranga network, is also quite keen to work with Trustpower to achieve their own outcomes in terms of smart-grid services.”
Trustpower General Manager Simon Clarke said Intellihub’s focus on better service and innovative solutions was a key part of the new agreement.
“This new partnership will provide a step change to the smart metering services that we’ve seen to date across New Zealand and will give us a competitive advantage,” Mr Clarke said.
“This is a major milestone for Trustpower and we think that Intellihub’s entry as an independent non-retailer, non-lines company will be good in the long term for the market.
“As well as a successful deployment program, we are also looking forward to continuing to collaborate with Intellihub on an ongoing basis to work on new innovations and services that can be provided by us to our customers.”
